I just came from the Dr. He says everything looks good. He encourages my efforts to exercise and diet but he is not thrilled that I am doing the South Beach Diet. He plans to keep a close watch on me. He doesn't care for low carb plans. I picked up some fruit and low carb wraps and pita bread. I plan to start Phase 2 tomorrow although I really don't miss it at this time. I will be adding carbs back very slowly and carefully. I am a little nervous about it. Weight the same 221.5.

Maybe your doctor didn't know South Beach isn't low carb? It uses the glycemic index and was created for heart patients? I had heart issues and my doctor put me ON SB. SB encourages black beans, lentils, other healthy legumes, broccoli and other great veggies and many other healthy carbs. I know many people whose docs do recommend this plan, but also those people knew it wasn't a low carb plan. Maybe he was thinking you were on atkins? It gets a bad wrap for that reason?

Also, use your food diary and print it out to show your doctor what you're eating. My doctor loved seeing that and it helped confirm to me that I was doing everything right.

on phase 1 you should be totally faithful and phase 2 is not low carb it is good carb vs. bad carb have you read the book enough to understand the principals behind this LIFESTYLE after being on phase 2 for awhile...3 bites of cheesecake would be accpetable but not before i bet your doctor would much rather see a salad and a chicken breast...which would be considered a low carb meal over salad and a piece of cheesecake make sure that you are willing to make the committment to living this way for life...the ajustment period is a little long...but so definately worth it...good luck

I also do not understand your doctors attitude,he must not understand SB. My hubbys doctor and mine were thrilled with our diet choice and even more thrilled when the blood work results started showing huge improvements quickly. Hubby was diabetic type 2 and now he is NO LONGER DIABETIC!! That is huge!! our doctors are thrilled. You need to get the book if you do not already have it because it explains it so clearly. Good Carbs vs. Bad Carbs.. and how to introduce those things back into your phase 2 slowly. Learn to recognize which foods are good for you and which are not, use the GI system. I discovered that oatmeal is not good for me, it leaves me hungry and wanting more. I discovered a post trail mix crunch cereal that add a few sliced/broken up almonds to with some yogurt and that satisfies me. Also veggie and egg omlettes are great for me.. I have my grain servings in other places. So far like my daughter ImLuuvd grains have not been very freindly for me. I like whole wheat tortillas and pita bread and they seem to be fine for me. I make chips out of the pita bread for chips with hummus (that is realy satisfying). You need to go slow on phase 2 , re-introduce foods one at a time.. and remember to only eat fruit WITH a protein. Apple and peanut butter, cheese stick with a piece of fruit, etc... Good luck.

My doc also loves South Beach and eats just like the SB diet recommends. He was highly impressed with my health improvements and even got me to tell his nurse all about how I lost so much weight and greatly improved my cholesterol levels.
