Things are going pretty well so far. Not feeling free to snack whenever I feel like it, and actually trying to control portions at meals and eat less fat and fewer carbs, I find I get pretty hungry between meals. In one way, I like this. Hunger really is the best sauce for your meal (and adds no calories!). ;-) But other times, I feel that this regimen will never end, that I will never eat "normally" again, that the weight loss will be too slow to encourage me, that I am doomed to fail. Of course, part of the point is to change what is "normal" eating for me, so in a sense, as soon as I adjust mentally, I _will_ be eating normally again, by definition. And the rest is really just a matter of attitude as well, though that doesn't mean the adjustment is easy.

Yesterday, I shopped hungry. By the time I got to the bread aisle, I really felt like buying 1-2 of EVERYTHING. I really wanted just to flee the store, before I did something stupid. But I made it, and we got the moderate load of groceries home. This trip we also purchased a food scale and a new bathroom (digital) bathroom scale, so I weighed in afresh this morning: 191.8. It's not a bad start.

Elizabeth Cady is not, of course, my real name. I wanted to be reminded of a strong woman each time I came on here and had to think about my food and exercise choices. It makes me feel good to be under the patronage, as it were, of one of the incredibly tenacious women who won women's right to vote in the U.S. Soldier on, sisters! (Not that I want to exclude any gentlemen who might come across this entry--hang tough, fellows!)
