Yes, you can lose weight without exercise. But should you? That's the question. Exercise will help firm you up as you lose. It will help you keep the weight off when you get to goal. As you get older it will help with middle age spread (unless you are already there, lol). Then it will help you lose fat quicker and fit into smaller sizes faster. Get a pedometer and aim for 10,000 steps a day. My sister lost a lot of weight with informal exercise. As you start feeling healthier, you may actually "want" to exercise, lol! Good luck!
