Collagen has been popping up a lot lately. From what I've read there seems to be a lot of benefits to it, but I'm wondering if anyone has any personal experience with it and can share the pros or cons of collagen. Also, any recommendations on collagen brands that have worked for you, and if so why those brands?

I take collagen every day. The kind for hair, skin, and nails. I wanted the type 2 kind but the type 1 and 3 are also important to me. To be honest, I don't know that it does much. I think type 2 collagen is supposed to be better and they don't sell it here. Chicken bone brother in my opinion would be better for it. These people tested all types. https://www.verywellhealth.com/best-collagen-supplements-4587056

Collagen is an incomplete protein (and as a powder, highly processed). If you’re getting enough protein in your daily intake, it’s just extra. Otherwise, eating an extra chicken leg, a glass of milk, a can of tuna, a cup of edamame, etc will reap better results.

Collagen is great. Especially for joints since ligaments and the discs in spine are also collagen! Personally, for joints/cartlidge i take NOW UC-2, take it at night 2.5 hrs after eating every night since my back injury. i also use Zen Principle Collagen powder in recipes: coffee, smoothies, pancakes, etc. Ill post the photos on my page for you. Collagen is nearly useless if you arent getting enough Vitamin C, which helps with collagen production. My B vitamins has Vit C as well as eating fruits. it maybe one of those things that helps when taken regularly rather then sporadically. Some swear by it, others have had digestive discomfort. It depends on many factors. Trial and error will help you decide whether it suits your lifestyle. Hyaluronic Acid, Reservatrol are other great supplements for hair skin and nails, anti-oxidants. Reservatrol is found in grapes. But hyaluronic acid, reservatrol, collagen, UC-2...i take all these and more for my osteoarthritis, and back. i feel the difference without some of them when i ran out last month. my knee is more swollen now.

I take collagen everyday. Just be careful to read label as it can be highly processed.I put it in my coffee and I do see a big difference in my hair growth and in my skin. I have autoimmune issues and I often lose my hair but the collegen does help.

I have been taking collagen every day for years! Recently, I switched from Vital Proteins to a new Collagen Peptides + Probiotics by Orgain that was on sale for $9 off when Costco started carrying it. There was a limit of six so I bought six! I had arthroscopic surgery on my knee for a torn meniscus years ago and my knee used to bother me some. It doesn't anymore and I have stairs. My hair is very healthy, too.

In my opinion, bone broth is less processed and more affordable way to get collagen. If you're cooking meat containing bonw, you can make bone broth. I've also heard that it can help to ease ketosis symptoms if you're using that method to lose weight, probably more for the electrolytes, but collagen can reduce other problems as well.

Yes. I take it with my smoothie and change I saw was with my hair growing, nails and energy. The one I’m currently using changed formula I think it don’t look same as previous. Also it’s given me blotting maybe because I’m lacking bio to digest it.

I have noticed in the past that my nails are stronger on collagen, though I’m considering some of the (vegan) options dazey mentioned

I buy Vitals chocolate collagen, it tastes good and it’s got clean ingredients. I also buy Sam’s choice organic beef bone broth and drink 1 cup every night. It has helped my skin and hair.

The thing with collagen is you have no control over where your body sends it. So while it may be beneficial, if you’re looking for specific results…you could be disappointed!
