So...I got on the scale today and it was up. I just cannot believe it! I've been sticking to plan faithfully. I've been exercising. And my clothes fit better. Truly, I can get into things that I could not wear three weeks ago. All I can figure is that my scale was off a few weeks ago, because there is no way I gained five pounds and am shrinking. Am I going crazy? I haven't changed my workout routine (still two days of one-hour barre classes and two half-hour sessions of high-intensity interval training, plus at least 40 minutes of walking daily) so it should not be muscle gain. I'm trying not to let it discourage me, but I do confess that when I saw that number all I wanted to do was eat a pancake! I resisted, but I did eat half a mini biscotti (24 cals, 3 carbs, but fair under the circumstances!). I guess what is most disappointing is that I haven't cheated, haven't caved into temptation. I know it's a journey. I know this may be water. I know a lot of logical things, but it was like a punch in the gut. Working hard to stay the course and keep moving forward.

You are most likely putting on some muscle, which weighs more than fat, so you will shrink in size but your weight may remain steady for awhile...Hang in there, the clothes tell you its working!!!

If you've exchanged fat for muscle you will look smaller as muscle is denser than fat (takes up less space on your body). But a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat - they are both one pound! Fear not; if you've been working out a lot you may retain water for a time in the new muscle tissue you are building. Don't let the scale mess with your head! And if you're still in the fertile years your cycles will cause temporary weight gain.

Any workout will gain muscle, so don't fret the pounds will come off, because muscle will burn more calories. Stay determined!

Weight loss is seldom linear...even with the best of efforts. Sometimes even higher sodium can make a huge difference in a person's water tissue weight from one day to the next. Stay on track and it will work out. Take care and good luck!!

Not to be strange, but.. maybe you just had to take a really big poo. Scales are weird. :) celebrate those CLOTHES! and never give up.

This is why I've given up the scale til April. I am going by the fit of my clothes. I am trying to lose fat/build muscle so am NOT concentrating on THAT number. I know if I stay on plan, continue to work out, AND my clothes still fit (or get looser, please god) all is good, no matter what that awful rotten nasty scale says....unless it's down then I love it, lol....

I think it happens to us all....I'm staying under 1000 calories a day, and walking at least 75 minutes a day, and my weight was up 4 pounds from YESTERDAY. My guess would be it's temporary water weight gain. Although on the surface it's discouraging, I'm much rather be properly hydrated, and let that number work it's way back down. Stay strong !

The bump could be a lot of things - I measure my waist every day with the scale, and track both numbers over time. Don't stress over 1 data point, but look for trends.

I gave up the scale. The numbers are disappointing sometimes. I base it off clothing size. Keep up the good work

It's really true, waist circumference is far better indicator of fat lost than scale weight. I know how you feel though. When I see a bad number, I have a moment of wanting to give it all up.

more than likely water retention. weight can Flux drastically based on hydration levels
