This is my one year anniversary on FatSecret. I can't believe the change a year has made. I am still nervous. I still love all the wonderful sweet, fatty foods that made me so overweight, and I still don't love to exercise. But I have proved to myself that I _can_ lose a significant amount of weight, and keep it off for a while. Now I just need to prove that I can make this change permanent. My goal has not been reached yet either, but I am so close I can taste it--even better than chocolate chip cookies! (But is it as good as oreo cheesecake, premium ice cream or galaktobourikos?) And I still eat everything I love--just not as much or as often--and don't eat meal replacement products.

I wish I could communicate my success to my friends and acquaintances who have expressed interest in my dramatic weight loss (almost 60 lbs.!), but each person has to commit him/herself, and no one can do it for them. It is just like quitting smoking in that way--you can use all the aids in the world, but until you yourself are fully committed to making that change, nothing can really stop you from resuming that behavior. I'd like to think that now, having been on this journey for a year, I could never go back to the way things were, but I know that is not true. Just as with recovering from alcoholism, I will need to continue to stay on top of this. I don't say I never go on a bit of a food bender, but I'll really need to keep discipline most of the time, to keep from sliding into old habits.

Happy anniversary to me, and another year of improved health. And congratulations to anyone who may read this who is celebrating a positive milestone. And just plain good luck and happy travels to all of us. Slow and steady wins the race.
