O.K.--the scale is showing that I am still losing weight (I weighed-in at 121 this morning...to give a little background info. my goal was 135 and I have continued to lose weight). I absolutely do not want to drop below 120, and I would be happy to have stayed at 125. So, any South Beachers out there who have done the diet, and have been successful at maintaining a weight on Phase 3, I need some advice. Believe me when I say that I eat. I don't allow myself to go hungry, that would be breaking one of the cardinal rules of the diet. I was recently asked by a fellow fatsecret member if I ever cheat. I don't like to use the word "cheat", because it has a real negative vibration to it, so I use the word "indulge". And the answer is yes, I occasionally indulge. About 2 weeks ago I went to a graduation party and I had a very modest sized slice of cake. To be honest, though, I can't tell you when it was prior to that day that I would have indulged in a real dessert. So perhaps I have a real piece of dessert twice or maybe even only once a month. The rest of the time I stick to something sugar free, or from the South Beach line of foods, or low carb. Am I being too strict at this point? How do I get over the mental hurdle of the fear of gaining any weight as a result of either adding something back into my diet or lightening-up on myself a bit? I will tell you that white bread holds no temptation for me nor do white potatoes. I do think about eating white pasta again, because I have heard nutritionists comment on it having a low glycemic index as compared to other "white" foods (up to now I have stuck with whole grain pastas). I have been on the South Beach Diet for almost an entire year; I like the diet, I love the results, it has changed my life in so many ways, and I don't ever want to slip into old habits again. I know I need to strike some sort of balance with the foods I eat. Any help would be much appreciated.

FANTASTIC JOB! Embrace the new life-style. No longer a diet but a healthy way of eating.

Dear Becky, your amazing accomplishment over the past year has proved that you can take the weight off. I certainly can't give you any advice from experience, so I will leave that to the ones who are successfully maintaining their loss. But I just wanted to give you some spiritual support.

Hi Becky! So glad to see you writing a journal! You are such an example for the rest of us having lost 59 pounds and surpassed your goal without ever looking back. I took some time and looked up an ideal weight calculator. For your height, 5'3" (almost), it said your ideal weight would be 126 with a range of 112-140. To maintain your weight you would need to eat 1647 calories with light exercise or 1900 calories with moderate. I bet you rarely if ever eat that many calories and that's why you are probably still losing. Why don't you make an effort to journal your food for a week or two and get an idea of how many calories you are eating. You could slowly increase your portions or add more healthy snacks in to reach that calorie amount. I don't think you have to be afraid of going back to your old habits. You've been way too good to do that!

BTW, there are several people here on the SBD who have reached their goal. Imluuvd, Information, and Herbie are a few who come to mind. Maybe they can give you some insight.
