Soft drinks and depression.
Officially there is no link between the two, however some articles online have suggested there is. Since I stopped drinking this crap (coke/diet coke/energy drinks, etc.) I feel much better and happier about life in general.
I don't believe I was in a deep depression, but I do notice a big change, not just physically but mentally for the better.

I dont know what the ingredient(s) are that may cause this depressing feeling, but there are so many chemicals in these drinks that we the public has no idea about, and definitely unaware of the side effects they may cause.
Its not far fetched that the producers of these drinks want you to become addicted to it, and yearn for more of it like an addiction. If you feel good without it, theyre not pleased, since they dont profit.
They would rather you get that down feeling when you dont have it, then the sugar and chemicals within will give you an artificial high when you drink it, that will keep you coming back for more. Just like a junkie drug addict.
I'm not a doctor or a health expert but putting a stop to putting dangerous chemicals in my body is a good choice.

This has made me think twice about anything I buy to eat/drink. Read the ingredients and nutritional value of anything you consume, If you see lots of chemicals or ingredients that you have no idea what it is, avoid it. Chances are high that these ingredients were placed in the food/drink to get you addicted for more, or to enhance the taste artificially, simply to sell more of their product. I'm trying to avoid any food/drink that was produced in a factory. In today's food market it is nearly impossible, but im trying and my body and mind are on an upswing.

For those of you who cant go a day without drinking soft drinks, I feel for you and have been there. Be strong and stop it, it will take a few days, maybe few weeks but I believe you will feel much better without it.
Thats my rant for the day, Coca-Cola Co. I hate you.

Sugars tend to buzz us up and then we crash...and they say carbs are related to serotonin which is the neurotransmitter involved with depressed mood.

Maybe you are just feeling proud of yourself and that's the change. Feeling strong and in control of our eating habbits is a great thing.

I feel the exact same way, I deal with severe depression and since I have stopped drinking soda I have felt much better. I have never been much of a water drinker but I've pushed it and been almost soda free for over a month and I really notice the difference. Thank you so much for sharing :)

I drink diet coke regularly, although not daily. It hasn't affected me at all. In fact, after 4 years of severe depression and anxiety, I'm feeling better than I have in years. First step was getting off the meds, getting my thyroid fixed, eating almost no processed foods (used to eat a lot of microwave meals), and getting more exercise. My diet cokes are a couple of times a week treat. Although, I don't like canned or both titled, just fountain.

Inflammation causes depression also, glad to have you as a buddy, you are doing awesome. I have no problem quitting soda. I begin no smoking in the morning...

Good for you quitting!! I'm not a soda drinker but the chemicals would throw me over the brink as per testing I'm chemical sensitive. All that sugar or fake sugar has numerous side affects including prohibiting weight loss.

Once in a while I have a craving for a diet Dr Pepper or Diet cream soda but I'm happy to say I haven't had anything carbonated for months...Keep up the good work!

i feel way better with out sodas too. not so bloated and i really believe they were a huge cause of IBS for me bc now they are gone I dont have any symptoms. The aspartame is diet soda's is soo bad for you... Some one here posted if its made from a plant its good if its made in a plant,. its bad .. or something like that. I try and follow that rule now. Also, if your grandmothers grandma wouldnt recognize it then dont eat it so .. no skittles or diet cherry 7 up.. I follow that rule too.

Really it's a great rust remover!! If you put a bone in it it will dissolve!!! Scary!!!

Quitting soda was my new years resolution, but I don't feel much different since I stopped drinking it. But I do still eat sugar.

It's also a good rust remover. Put a bone in coke or pepsi -- let it soak it will dissolve fairly quickly-- a couple days for a rib bone.

I agree. Just causes cancer anyways.

I finally quit the diet coke or pepsi. You're right all the chemicals in them are so bad for us. According to all the warnings Phosphorus leaches bone calcium and the coloring causes problems.

Good for you Dboza! I found a package of food coloring in my pantry, hasn't been used for years and those fake cake decorating candies. All are now in the trash. I figure if I need food coloring for something I'll check out some natural alternatives.

Great job! Yes the ingredient list of products is really dictating what I buy these days.
