Päiväkirja - fastestskier, 31 heinä 18

So I've had a goal for a while to hit a 3500cal deficit (in one day) while still eating a 'normal' amount of food. I've been doing a lot of reading, and increasing my excercise over time in an effort to achieve my goal. I think that today, may be the day... So far I've completed my first excercise session burning 1000 cals. I'm going to rest up a bit and try for another later this afternoon, with a possible third shorter session before bed.

Sorry but im not certain that being in a 3500 cals deficit each day is healthy! That means you would lose a pound a day and thats not healthy! Try to aim for 1-2 lbs a week. I know the process might be longer but it’s worth it! You’ll learn so much on how to maintain afterwards and how to keep your healthy life styles. Please don’t go extreme on your diet

Thanks for the concern, but my goal isn't to lose 3500cals every day; just to do it at least once in order to push myself. I've heard/read that people who lost more than 1-2 pounds a week; in the long run; regained their weight, because they didn't change their eating habits. But I've never read anything that says rapid weight loss could cause your health to degrade. Just out of curiosity, why do you think a deficit of 3500/day is unhealthy? Thanks in Advance Personally, I think that the word 'healthy' gets used far too often, and lacks any real meaning.

Well, I know having a 3500 cals deficit is very hard with eating! Most people who go that low usually end up with some type of eating disorder because they starve themselves. I just hope you’re not going to extreme

I think a young athletic guy needs quite a few calories so maybe he could run that kind of deficit. For someone who needs only 1500 calories a day (like an older short woman) it'd be much more difficult. She'd have to walk for hours to burn off the calories and skip eating for the day too.

I've consumed 1400cals so far today, and I'll likely eat once more before bed. I've also spent over 3hrs on an elliptical to burn an extra 2000cals. I think I need one more excercise session to get me to my goal.

This sounds like the beginning of a disorder... it’s not only unhealthy physically but mentally to think you have to push yourself in this way in order to make progress, you could wind up with overtraining syndrome (yes this is a thing) or rhabdomyolysis or an actual injury that’ll sideline you entirely. You may also find yourself feeling uncontrollable urges to binge because your body and brain will revolt against you, because it likes homeostasis, if you do this regularly it will for sure increase in stress hormones and electrolyte imbalances. Runners who burn around 2500 calories during marathons take weeks of recovery off after they’re hard races for good reason. Please don’t do this. ❤️

I appreciate your concern but it's misplaced. I didn't say that I have to do this to see progress; I've already lost ~35lbs in the last 4 months. My motivation is that I like to challenge myself. Setting goals, planning, hard work, and eventually accomplishing the goal; are all things I get a kick out of. I'm also not jumping into this cold, I've been working up to this for over a month. I will do some additional reading to educate myself on some of the possible problems you mentioned.

Success! Just broke the 3500 point. That was a lot of time on the elliptical. My fitbit recorded just over 19000 steps and a distance of just over 10km. It went pretty smoothly; I think all my prep work really paid off.
