Päiväkirja - Gerry1066, 16 elo 15

So . . . walked over 5 miles attending the Eastbourne airshow yesterday and ate at around 2000kcal (within my daily input to lose weight) but apparently put on 0.3kg (over 0.5lb)!
I'll have a less active day today and it will probably go down tomorrow. Opposite to the expected.

If the food was high in sodium that might explain the gain. It'll probably come off again pretty quick if that's the case.

Thanks for that. Valid point as I did have a M&S wrap yesterday when out and about so sodium within may well be above my usual intake.

I believe that weighing yourself more than once a week is counter productive and in the worst case, soul destroying. I step on the scales on a Friday morning. I close my eyes for a few seconds, then when I open them the scales have locked to a weight. That is my weight for that week. No best of three, no averages, just the first number it locks to. If I am down a pound, well done. If I am down three pounds, brilliant. If I have not last anything, well, there is always next Friday. On a daily basis I can tell you how many calories I have consumed. I aim for 1900, but 1950 is okay and 2000 is not a disaster on a bad day. It works for me. It may not be ideal for everyone. I still have 5 stone to lose but I will get there. Not this year, hopefully next year, definitely by July 2017 (special occasion coming up).

Thanks. Yes I did consider as to how often I should weigh myself and decided a daily weigh-in was preferable for monitoring progress . . . . or otherwise. I'm a person of habit in the mornings and won't forget to do it before my first cup of tea. Please don't read me wrong as I'm okay with the ups and not at all despondent. The only surprise was the amount it went up after all my walking yesterday and keeping the food intake within my usual. As mentioned it may be the sodium intake from the packaged lunch. Looking at the longer term, once I get to my goal weight I'll probably do a weekly weigh-in. Targeting that before the end of the year. But again, many thanks for your comment and thoughts.

I've been reading a lot about this. Those daily weigh-ins for me seem to fluctuate quite a bit. Here is a really good article that helped me make sense of things. Different strokes for different folks. http://www.ontheregimen.com/2014/02/09/what-those-scale-weight-fluctuations-really-mean/

Thanks for the link. Just checked it out and found it informative and enlightening. It comes back to the sodium intake when I was out yesterday and I also had chicken breast in my meal when I got home. Apparently chicken breast can contain high levels of sodium which may have compounded todays weigh-in. So, if all goes to plan and I keep to normal home made meals, I'll see the numbers coming down over the next days.
