As a librarian, I do a lot of materials handling, from sorting carts of books to shelving (which means a lot of bending at the knee and carrying 10-20lb stacks). Despite the physical requirements of my job, I have continued to gain weight.
My original weight gain began four years ago and was triggered by my 6 month tangle with depo, a form of birth control that is often used as a last resort. However, since then, I have continued to gain weight gradually over time.
As of June 6, 2011, I have topped out at 195 lbs. Aside from have slightly raised cholesterol, I'm starting to have lower back problems as well. I can't stand the idea that I might hit the 200 marker, when 4 years ago, I weighed 135. I don't want to have unrealistic goals. My health is the most important factor in my diet. I would like to get down to 150, but I don't expect this to happen over night.
My goal is to lose 1-2 lbs per week over the next few years. I have had successful diets in the past. I'd like to make this one successful as well.
